Fort Funston

For now this is pretty much a H3-H4 site. I haven’t been able to fly there yet. I have heard that H2’s can make ‘sledders’ or straight flights down to a particular area there, but it hasn’t been worth it for me to go. This is a very popular site for H3’s and H4’s. There has been some talk about making an H2.5 rating for pilots, since the gap between the H2 and H3 ratings can be so challenging or time consuming. The plan I think was to have Fort Funston possibly be accessible to H2.5’s, but this isn’t the case yet.

What to do before you go:

  • Get H3 certified or above

  • Go to the Fellow Feathers website: www.flyfunston.org

  • I’m not really sure. I haven’t flown there yet.

Where to go:

  • Fellow Feathers site guide: http://www.flyfunston.org/site.php

What to bring:

  • Again, I’m not sure at this point. The flights look like they can be about as long as you want, so snacks and water to take in the air would be good, and probably a good 2-way radio
